Explorer Trouble Codes

Q. Hi, On my Explorer the check engine light stays on. So I checked the trouble codes and it gave me codes 12, 14 and 214.

12 RPM not within self test upper limit
14 Profile ignition pick-up circuit fault
214 Cylinder Identification CID Circuit Failure

I have no idea what any of that means. And I certainly have no idea how to fix it. PLEASE HELP me if you can.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A. Okay, first off the codes. Code 12 indicates a fault in the Idle Speed control circuit. Code 14 indicates two successive Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) pulses occurred, resulting in a possible engine miss or stall. Code 214 indicates an error has been detected in the Cylinder Identification (CID) input signal.

Bad or cracked spark plugs or ignition wires. An open or shorted harness. Bad Camshaft Position sensor (CMP), Crankshaft Position sensor (CKP), Bad Ignition Control Module (ICM) or Bad Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

There was a TSB on the Electrical Distribution Module (EDIS) that applies to 1990 and 1991 models with the 4.0 liter engine. There was a problem with the connector that resulted in an incorrect ground circuit.

I could have been more specific if you included the year and engine.
