Chevy Corsica Running Hot?

Q. Hi Vince, I have a question for you. My temperature guage fluctuates from its normal ¼ to ½ but it jumps up and down erradically. Is there a cause for this I replaced the water pump, but did not flush the system just blew out the coolant and replaced with new 50/50 coolant.

1991 Chevy Corsica
2.2 liter 4 cylinder
Automatic transmission
260 000 kms
Fuel Injection
no-ABS brakes
P/S - A/C
power steering

I am thinking my temperature sensor is going. What is the normal operating temperature of a four cylinder engine? My guage has 25° - 125°; I am assuming it is in Celsius since I am in Canada. My friends Caravan also has a bouncy temperature guage, It is a V-6 auto and recently had the water pump done too.

Thanks for your reply, your a godsend for us poor working stiffs who have to fix their own car.

A. You may have air trapped in the system somewhere. These cars run around 200° F (93° C). The coolant fan will not come on until it hits 228° F (109° C).
