Pontiac Firebird Keeps Stalling
Q. I have a 1989 Pontiac Firebird 5.0 TBI. When I drive until the engine gets to normal temperature a shut it off when I'm at the store, sometimes I'm in there for about 30 minutes I start the car, my engine keeps on stalling. I have to keep pressing on the gas to keep it from stalling. When I rev it and let go of the gas, it idles fine.
On November 9th, 2002, I was at a stoplight, my engine cut out. I had to start it like about six times to keep it from cutting out. I press the gas, it hesitates and misfires. It stalled about two times that night, and it's making me very mad. I replaced the coolant sensor and there is a hose that it disconnected if u put your ear up to the hose, it sounds like air or exhaust I think its one of my vacuum hoses?
A. That hose needs to be hooked up to something! A vaccum leak will cause this problem. Check under the hood for a vaccum hose schematic on the emissions label. See if you can find where it goes. A problem in the ignition or ECM could also cause this.
