Chrysler Fifth Avenue RKE

Q. Dear Sir, I have a 1992 Chrysler Fifth Avenue that I just purchased. It has a 3.3 liter V-6 engine. The question I have is about the remote fob that came with it. The fob had dead batteries and I replaced them but it still doesn't work. Someone told me sometimes they have to be re-calibrated or reset.

They told me that they believed that all you had to do was to push the buttons in a certain sequence to do this but they didn't know what that was. I was wondering if this is true or do I have to take it to the dealership like they told me and pay them $25.00 to do something to it.

The fob has a lock and unlock button and also a trunk unlock button on it. If you could answer my question I would really appreciate it.

Thank you very much,
Robert

A. From what you describe, your Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter looks like this:

If that is the case, this is how you reprogram it.

PROGRAM REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY:

  1. Place the key in the ignition and turn ON.
  2. Connect the program line (pin 5 connector 2) from the Remote Key-less Entry module to ground. The door locks will cycle lock, unlock to show that the receiver is ready to receive code of the transmitter.
  3. Press any button on the transmitter to set code. If there is a second transmitter it has to be set at this time. The locks will cycle again to confirm programming.
  4. Now remove the program line from ground. This returns the system to its normal operation mode.
