Ford Explorer Drivers Door Remote Lock
Q. 1999 Ford Explorer 4.0 liter engine WD and 79,000 miles. The driver side door will not lock with the remote or the door lock switch. All the others will. You have to manually push it down. What do I need to look at to trace the problem down?
A. You probably have a bad door lock actuator. If you unplug it and check for power at the connector and power is there, then the door actuator is bad. Here is how to replace it.
REMOVAL:
- Remove the front door trim panel.
- Remove the water shield.
- Remove the power door lock actuator.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Drill out the rivet.
- Disconnect the actuator rod.
- Remove the actuator.

You will need to rivet the new actuator in. You can rent one at a tool rental store.
