Ford Fuel Filter

Q. I need some help installing my fuel filter on a 1997 F150 Lariat 8 cylinder 4.6 automatic transmission, 79,000 miles fuel injected, ABS, P/S, A/C, cruise, R&P. I can't figure out how to get it off.

A. Okay, on the fittings going into each end of the filter is a plastic clip. Remove the clips by pulling them straight out. They have tabs on the end you have to squeeze to remove them. Don't worry if they should break, the new filter should come with two new ones. Once the clips are off, pull the fittings off the fuel filter. They are tight so it may take some effort.

Install the new fuel filter, push the lines ALL the way in and install the new clips. That's all there is to it. Before you pull off any lines, take the gas cap off to relieve the pressure in the gas tank and have something handy to stick in the tank side line to keep it from running out all over the place.

A drain pan under the filter would be a good idea as well.
