Camaro Starter

Q. I have reason to believe that the starter is going out in my car. But before I decide to take it apart I would like to know what I am getting myself into. I crawled underneath the other day and I notice the exhaust pipe goes right under it. Is there a way that I can take the starter off without having to disconnect the pipe from the manifold? I have a 1994 Chevy Camaro Z28.

Thanks.

A. Yes, it is possible to remove the starter from the engine without disconnecting the exhaust pipe. It's not easy and takes a bit of playing, but it can be done. Sometimes I have had to jack up the engine and, sometimes, take a motor mount out, but that's preferably to messing with the exhaust manifold studs.
