Pontiac Sunfire Service Engine Light

Q. I have a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, 2.2 liter fuel injected engine, automatic transmission, A/C and P/S. My question is when the car turned 40,000 miles a Service Engine light came on and stays on. This is not the check engine light. Since I do my own maintenance I'm sure it is a reminder to take the car to the dealer for it's major PM. How do you turn the light off?

Pontiac Sunfire Service Engine Light

A. Wrong! This is the same as the old "Check Engine Light"! There is a problem somewhere. You need to have it scanned for codes. My guess, an EVAP code. They had problems with a short wire harness breaking in the rear of the car. Don't take my word for it, have it scanned first before there is some damage done!
