Jeep Grand Cherokee Thuds

Q. A question about my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee: It is optioned with a in-line 6 cylinder, 4.0 liter, automatic transmission with Select Trak 4 WD system. It has the curious and irritating problem of making a "thud", both sound and feel, after coming to a complete stop. It does this when the car is in gear.

Technicians say this is normal. I suspect something is amiss in the transmission/torque converter area. The "thud" does not happen when the car comes to a stop in neutral. Any response would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Jess

A. I'm assuming you mean the Technicians at the Jeep Dealer. Well, if they say it's normal, tell them you want to drive three or four others and see if they do it. If they do, then it maybe normal or a factory defect that they are not admitting to... yet.

If none of them do the same thing, then what I would do is call Chrysler Customer Service and file a formal complaint. You'll get an appointment with the Factory Representative and hopefully he can resolve the situation for you.

Keep all your receipts and documentation. If they can not repair the vehicle in a reasonable time, you may have recourse under your States Lemon Laws.
