Jeep Grand Cherokee Binds On Turns
Q. Hi, Thanks in advance for your help. I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD 4X4 5.2 liter 8 cylinder with 89,000 miles. Whenever I make a sharp, and sometimes not so sharp, left or right turn my front tires drag almost to the point of feeling like it's buckling. I took it in for an alignment and it worked perfect for about two days before reverting back to the same problem.
I figured if there was a problem with getting it aligned they would have alerted me at the time of the alignment, but they said nothing so I figured everything was okay. I appreciate your suggestions.
Carpe Diem,
KenA. Usually when this happens it is either due to the vehicle being in 4WD or the front hubs are locked. If you jack up the front end you can try to spin the front wheels and see if they are free. If not, you'll need to determine if it is the hubs are locked or stuck in 4WD.
If you disconnect the front drive shaft, you can eliminate the transfer case as a possibility.
Also check the front axle U-joints. I have seen them freeze up and cause this same problem. It would not be evident unless specifically looked for.
