Ford Aerostar Hunting Idle
Q. Hello Mr. Ciulla, I own a 1993 Ford Aerostar XLT 3.0 liter V-6, automatic transmission with 137,000+ miles. It's fuel injected, has rear ABS brakes, A/C, P/S and cruise control. The problem: When I cold start the vehicle, the engine idle lopes. It does not run at a faster idle then gradually slow down as it heats up.
I do not experience the loping idle when the vehicle is in drive or reverse gear or when sufficiently warmed up. I have had the following services performed: fuel Injection system cleaning, and tune-up (including new plugs, wires, distributor rotor and cap). I would like to fix this myself, if I can. Any advise or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Yours truly,
AlA. I like to look for the simple solutions to a problem like this because the answer usually is a simple one. SO I would recommend giving the throttle body and Idle Air Control Valve a good cleaning. I wrote an article on this that will help you. Cleaning Throttle Bodies
If after cleaning you still have the problem, we can access the DTCs in the computer and see what they have to tell us.
