Ford F250 Turbo Diesel No Hot Restart
Q. I have a Ford F250 Turbo Diesel that I purchase recently with 300,000 miles, injectors rebuilt in the last 10,000 fuel filter changed two times lately, fuel pump looked new and I just replaced again. This is not my daily driver, used only a couple times a month. The problem I'm having is starting.
Cold is always starts quickly and keeps running well but if on the road if we stop for 20 to 45 minutes, like at a meal on the road, the truck won't restart. I can crank for extended time and it might start. The other day while cranking I loosened the fitting going to the fuel filter from the fuel pump and the truck started. I am a capable mechanic of obvious broken item but diesels I don't know anything about. Can you help?

After the fuel filter and fuel pump replacement, did you bleed the fuel system? If not, it is probably getting air bound. If it is mechanical fuel injection, while the engine is running, crack open the fuel line at each injector in turn until the engine stumbles and fuel comes out. When there are no more air bubbles, close the line, making sure it doesn't leak. Also, you need to drain the water out of the fuel/water separator on occasion. That will hinder a hot restart also.
Without know what year the vehicle is, that's about all I can offer.
