Chevy Blazer S10 Wheel Bearing Noise

Q. I have a 1996 Chevy Blazer S10 with 4WD and 4.3 liter V-6 engine. One of the front wheel bearings is making a roaring sound. How can I tell which one is going bad because on a 4WD model the entire hub assembly has to be change and they are very expensive if I have to change both of them when only one is bad.

Chevy Blazer S10 Wheel Bearing Noise

When I turn to the right the noise stops and when I turn to the left the noise continues hopes this say something as to which one it is.

Thanks,
Kenneth

A. Sometimes a bad hub bearing will have play in it. The best way to tell is to put on a lift and have it in 4x4. Then listen to both with a stethoscope. You should be able to hear the growl with the stethoscope.

But from what you describe, it sounds like it's the left wheel bearing that's bad. When you turn right you take the load off the left wheel and when you turn left, you take the load off the right wheel.
