Removing The Shaft And Housing Assembly - Continued

Carefully work off the shaft and housing assembly. This will expose the inner bearing assembly shown here. Figure 1.

The three white plastic pieces at 2, 8 and 11 o'clock are the tilt bumpers. If they are damaged, remove the remnants and replace.

Note at the bottom are two torx screws that hold the tilt release mechanism.

The inner bearing is shown here. Figure 2.

Note: The bearing actually has three pieces. Two are shown. There are actually two races. The second one is stuck by grease to the back side of the shaft and housing assembly just removed and looks exactly like the race show here.

The white universal joint here is for the tilt mechanism allowing the steering wheel to operate the steering shaft in any angle.
