1992 Chevy Lumina 3.1 Liter Tilt Steering Wheel Disassembly

Removing The Shaft And Housing Assembly© 2003 Alvie Rodgers C.E.T.On the center right hand side of the shaft and housing assembly is the pivot pin.
Caution: Be sure that the tilt spring has already been removed before attempting to remove pivot pins.
Figure 1special tool required! Insert the pivot pin removal tool by screwing in the center screw at least 4 to 6 turns. Then while holding the inside screw; use a wrench to tighten the outside nut. The pivot pin will back out and you rotate. Pay attention that the screw doesn't bend. If it does, the jacket of the special tool is not setting flat on the shaft housing. Figure 1.
Figure 2Perform the same procedure on the left hand side. This one is easy to get the special tool uneven. Pay close attention here so as not to break the center screw of the tool. Figure 2.

Use a wrench to secure the steering wheel shaft. Use a wrench on the lock nut and remove.

Caution: Item 3 Beveled Split Washer. The beveled side goes towards the Bearing.
