What Is The Best Pickup For Towing

Q. I have a 21 foot RV and I want to buy a new Pickup to pull it. Which pickup pulls the best for my purpose?

Thank you...

What Is The Best Pickup For Towing

A. I really can't recommend one truck over another. As it is they are all pretty much the same so personal preferences has a large part in the selection process.

The first thing you have to do is determine how much weight you'll need to tow and compare that with the vehicle's tow rating. Overloading a vehicle reduces braking capability, places undue stress on components and can lead to shortened service life or failure.

Most trucks have tow packages available as an option. These packages often include heavier suspension components, modified differential gear ratios and a transmission cooler. I would highly recommend, at the very least, a transmission cooler in anything that tows something.

You want to get an engine that has a high torque raring. Preferably a V-8 or larger. And don't forget about diesel powered trucks. Diesels are ideal for towing. They require less maintenance get better mileage and, with the proper care, will last almost forever.

I would also look for a vehicle with a long, wide wheel base. A longer, wider wheel base will make the truck more stable.

This, in a nut shell, is what you should look for. Everything else is your personal preferences.
