Replacing A Ford Probe Alternator

Q. Dear Vincent, I just have a question. How in the world does the alternator on a 1994 Ford Probe 2.0 liter come out? I tried to raise and lower the motor. I tried to remove it out of the bottom.

Replacing A Ford Probe Alternator

I tired to pull it out from the top out the back side of the motor but the intake seems to be in the way.

HOW DOES IT COME OUT? HELP!

Thank you,
Mike from New York

A. Here's how to do it.

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove upper alternator mounting bolt.
  2. Loosen alternator adjusting arm, then remove drive belt.
  3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove bolts and cross member.
  4. Disconnect alternator electrical connectors.
  5. Remove lower alternator mounting bolt, then the alternator.
  6. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
    • Adjust drive belt tension to specifications.
    • Torque lower bolt to 27-38 ft lb.
    • Torque upper bolt to 8-10 ft lb.
    • Torque cross member bolts to 69-96 ft lb.
