Honda Accord Difficult To Shift From Park
Q. I own a 1999 Honda Accord 3.0 liter V-6 and automatic transmission. Just recently, as in the last day or so, I've been having issues shifting from PARK to any other gear. Once the shifter is out of the PARK position it'll shift from R to D, D to N, or what have you.
However, as soon as you put it back in PARK it won't go back into another gear. You have to really beat on the shifter for it to move. Does it sound like the shifter cable is out of place or is it the shifter itself that's causing the problem? Or anything else I'm not thinking of?
Thanks in advance! I'm really glad I found you.
A. It sounds to me like you have a problem with the Shift Interlock System. There was a recall, 05V025000, on the ignition switches because of this problem. I would contact your Honda Dealer to see if the recall was performed and, if not, have it performed.
Another way to tell is to open the hood and locate the VIN plate. See if there is a punch mark above the eighth digit. If the is, the recall was performed. If not, it wasn't.
Let's check this out before we go anywhere else with it.
