Ford Crown Victoria No Windows And No A/C

Q. Mr. Ciulla! This is Joel again. You recently diagnosed my Ford fuel pump problems with my 1947 Ford (Crown Victoria engine). So now I am pulling out all the stops and I need your help. I also have a daily driver 1992 Ford Crown Victoria. It has been great but I have some small issues. It has the 4.6 liter V-8, automatic transmission and 156,000 miles.

First, it is throwing an antilock brake light? Any ideas? Second, the A/C used to work fine. Now it only blows scalding hot air. Compressor seems to kick on and the lines even get cold, but only hot hot air comes out and in Texas that is no bueno!!

And, speaking of heat, all of the power window motors are shot. I took one apart on the advice of a service tech ("Its easy!...") Nylon bushings were toast. I was told to replace with steel ball bearings, but I never got that far because I took the cable apart, I am a very curious person, and I have no idea how to loop the cable back into the housing.

Every forum I read doesnt mention these cables so I assume I should have left them alone but as I recall they had to come out to get the motor out. I have extra motors, off of the other Ford Crown Victoria doors, and I could use them if needed. So how do I repair/replace them and do you know of a manual that has a diagram?

Okay, I know this is a lot, but you nailed my problems last time and I am tired of manually pulling my windows up every day. So can you help me? I would really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!
Joel

A. Well this is another fine mess you've gotten us into! Always playing around and taking things apart.

Okay, first off you'll never get the window regulator cables strung back again. Even if you do the cable tension is preset at production. Improper adjustment may result in premature regulator failure or erratic operation. So you'll need to get replacement power window regulators. Power window regulators up to 2/93 are all the same as yours.

I never tried to repair a power window motor so you're on your own as far as that goes. If you have four good power window regulators and motors, just use them and save yourself a lot of time and headaches.

As for the ABS light, there is a fault in the system and the ABS light comes on to let you know there is a problem. There was a TSB issued concerning water intrusion into the ABS control unit. The ABS control unit is located front center of the engine compartment.

What you have to do is disconnect the 55-pin connector from the ECU and examine the connector and ECU for moisture or corrosion. If moisture or corrosion exists, you'll need to replace the ECU, P/N F1VY-2C219-A, and the wire assembly, F2AZ-14290-D if you don't have the heated windshield or F2AZ-14290-E if you do have the heated windshield.

If that checks out okay, the ABS control unit does have a self diagnostic capability, but you will need to have a Ford Dealer access the ABS control unit to get the stored codes.

The A/C problem may be the tough one. There is a blend door and blend door actuator that diverts air through or around the heater core, thus controlling the temperature of the output air. It sounds like this door or the actuator is not closing off the heater core and letting the cold air through.

Here is the procedure for testing the blend door actuator and Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) unit.

If it is a bad blend door actuator, the whole dashboard will need to come out to replace it.
