Nissan Pathfinder No Gauges, No Crank

Q. I was driving my 1998 Nissan Pathfinder on the interstate last night. After about 45 minutes of driving the tachometer, fuel, temperature, and volt gauges stopped working. I pulled off the interstate and shut the vehicle off and tried to restart it. The starter would not engage.

Mind you that headlights, radio, windshield wipers still worked fine, not a dead battery. When you turn the key to the ON position no warning lights illuminate. Checked fuses, all fine. Opened the hood, all seems okay.

Is it a security system? Or may be the ignition switch? Sorry for the long post any help is greatly appreciated.

A. It does sound like a bad ignition switch. Remove the lower steering column cover and check for power at the black/yellow wire and the white/black wire at the ignition switch connector with the key in the START position. If there is no power at those two wires, you have a bad ignition switch.
