BMW M3 Electrical Malfunctions

Q. Hi Vincent, I just recently purchased a 1995 BMW M3 built in 9/1994. When I bought it the dash light was out. I assumed it needed a new bulb and procrastinated on removing the unit and replacing it. Low and Behold one day the dash light came on along with the computer putting out errors, the door chime stared working, the interior light started working etc, etc, etc.

There is also one other factor, there is an aftermarket stereo system. It is pretty intense, sub woofer, amp, large bass in trunk. The stereo seems bad, or installed improperly and it doesn't function correctly.

There are times when it just shuts down, and there were occasions the left hand side of the car loses sound, which can be brought back on by either turning up the sound very loud or hitting a bump in the road.

This is going to be tricky to fix, any idea where to start?? I know the stereo should be the first part investigated and I will do that soon.

Thank you...

A I think that's the most logical place to start as well. Chances are whoever put it in twisted and taped the wires and they have started to come apart. If possible I would contact the person who installed the system and see if they can offer any assistance or at the very least, a wiring diagram.

Hopefully once you take it out, the problem will be obvious.
