Jeep Wrangler Vehicle Speed Sensor

Q. Hi Vincent, I have an 2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that I use for Rock Crawling, RV Pulling and daily driver. It has a 4.0 liter straight six and automatic transmission with factory 30% overdrive and 4.3 transfer case. I have been trying to overcome the 30% overdrive. In doing so, I have gone to 35" tires and 5:13 gears.

Jeep Wrangler Vehicle Speed Sensor

It seems this is the best combination and now I have good low end and mid-range performance without the lagging it had when stock with 31" tires and 4:10 gears. The engineers had their head in a hole when they decided to add the 30% overdrive this year.

I have been trying to locate a new speed sensor for this new OBD-II CAN system that Chrysler came out with. it sucks!!! Do you know of anyone that can help me? I have included a few pictures's of the Jeep. If you would please respond to both email addresses so I can review it at home if I am off shift.

Thank you,
Douglas

A I'm guessing you are not looking for the stock Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) which you can get at any Jeep Dealer. Rather you are looking for a VSS that will tell you what speed you're actually going and not the incorrect speed that it records after the tire and gear modifications.

If such a thing exists, I don't know where you would be able to find it. I guess the best thing I can do is suggest you call the local speed shops and see what they have or suggestions where you might find what you need.

You do know there is a switch to turn the overdrive off with?
