Handicapped Hand Controls
Q. I have a son who has just started college and he has Cerebral Palsy. I have purchased a mini van to retrofit for him with the hopes that he can learn to drive over time. I am not fond of the hand controls that are sold for people with disabilities. I have been trying to find a paddle type control for both gas and brake that would mount behind the wheel so that both of his hands could be on the wheel.
We purchased for him for Christmas a seat that has a steering wheel attached to it with the exact concept that I have. Do you know of any such device?
Regards,
MarioA There are four major makers of hand control devices for the handicapped. They are:
- Handicaps Inc.
- The Hand Drive Company
- MPD Hand Controls
- MPS Hand Controls
I don't know where you live, but a check in your local phone book will give you dealers of these companies products in your area.
