Plymouth Acclaim High Warm Idle

Q. When my car is cold it idles around 900 rpm, when it is warm it idles around 1,400 to 1,500 rpm, what is the FIRST thing I should do?

A. The first thing to do would be to check the computer for any stored codes. If you find any then you should deal with them as required. If there are no codes, the next thing to do would be to use a scan tool to see what the coolant temperature sensor is telling the PCM.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Do a check of the vacuum lines and hoses and repair any broken, cracked and questionable hoses. With a bit of carburetor cleaner check the intake manifold gasket for any vacuum leaks also.
