Ford Taurus Insufficient Heating

Q. I have a 1999 Ford Taurus with an interior heating problem. All you get is luke warm air. I have flushed out the heater core changed out the thermostat and replaced the motor on the blend door with no results. Once the temperature is warmed up you can get warm air for a minute or so then it begins to cool to a luke warm air.

The A/C compressor also seems to be cycling on and off no matter what the setting on the control panel. Do you have any ideas what I need to have checked next?

  • 1999 Ford Taurus
  • 3.0 liter V-6
  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles
  • ABS
  • P/S, A/C, Cruise control

Thanks for your help,

A. There is a TSB out on this problem. If the thermostat and everything else is good, you may have a problem with the Stratification (Secondary) Temperature Blend Door. This door is now available separately versus replacing the whole case assembly.

The instrument panel needs to come off to gain access to it and this might be a job best done by a Ford Dealer.

If you think you might want to give it a shot yourself, you can get a copy of the TSB at the Ford Dealer. It is TSB number 02-23-6 dated 11/25/02. It has the repair procedure and a list of parts needed.
