Mercury Marquis License Plate Lights

Q. This is a simple question. New Jersey requires that the rear license plate be lighted. I don't think my car, a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis I purchased in Florida, has a light. What would I need to do to get it lit?

Thanks!

Mercury Marquis License Plate Lights

A. If you look to the left and right of the rear license plate, you will see the lenses for the license plate lamps. Remove the screws and remove the bulbs. With the lights on, check for power at the sockets. If you have power at both sockets put in new bulbs, being sure they are the correct size and type.

If the lights don't come on, you will need to check the grounds for the license plate bulb sockets. If you do not have power, you will need to trace the brown wire back to the connector and find where power is lost.
