Ford Escort SES Light And EVAP DTCs

Q. Hi: My car is a 1999 Ford Escort SE, 2.0 liter and automatic transmission. The light that indicates Service Engine Soon goes on and off when it likes. A certified technician of the Ford dealer checked the system and found first that the Idle Air Control Valve was damaged. After that the light was off but came on again.

He checked again and according to the OBD he found that the EVAP canister purge vale was also damaged because it wasn4t able to hold the pressure applied by a vacuum. When he replaced this valve, checked again and the trouble continued. Then he asked the engineer chief and he told that check the wiring between the EVAP and the computer.

He released the connector of the computer and check again the EVAP and it works good and found that one wire was cut and replaced it. After that the light was off but the next day the light goes on again until now and not off. Then, where can the problem be?

Anything you can do for me will be thanks a lot.

A. It would have been extremely helpful if you had included the DTCs that is turning the Service Engine Soon (SES) light on. There are quite a few DTCs pertaining to the EVAP system so a specific code would help me come up with some suggestions for you.

As it is, the best I can do for you is to suggest your Ford Technician look in his TSBs for TSB 99-23-4 dated 11/15/99 for a possible solution.
