Subaru SVX Window Regulator
Q. Hi, I had some questions about my 1994 Subaru SVX. I rolled up my driver side power window and when it made contact with the top I heard a loud POP! I can hear the motor spinning but nothing happens. I know that there's a cable or something in there which probably broke and wanted to confirm that this is replaceable without having to buy the entire unit itself.
If so, where would I find something like that? I don't like going to the dealers cause they charge a little to much but I have no idea where to look for that kind of part. I also need a new power antenna. Just the antenna mast itself, motor still works. If you could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for your time,
ChrisA. The window regulator breaking is probably what caused that popping noise. The only two places I know of that you will find a new one is a Subaru Dealer (new) or a junk yard (used). It is not difficult to replace but it can be a bit tricky to worm out of the door.

The antenna mast can be replaced separately. You can get a new mast at the Subaru Dealer. Here's how to replace it.
Figure 1.
- Remove the antenna nut and base (see Figure 1)
- Turn the radio to ON and the antenna rod will extend. If the antenna rod does not extend, always check the power supply to the power antenna before replacing the power antenna assembly.
Figure 2.
- Grasp the antenna rod and pull up. Make sure the antenna rod fully separates from the antenna base (see Figure 2).
NOTE: Note the direction of the gear section on the antenna rope (rear facing). The new antenna rod must be installed the same direction.
Figure 3.
- Insert the replacement antenna rod with the radio in the ON position. Insert the antenna rope with the gear section facing the rear of the vehicle (see Figure 3).
- Turn the radio OFF to retract the antenna rod. If the antenna motor stops before the antenna has fully retracted, turn the radio ON and then immediately turn it OFF. Guide the antenna rope and rod into the antenna assembly.
- Reinstall the antenna nut and base. Cycle the radio ON and OFF to check the antenna operation.
