Getting Decal Off A Defroster Grid
Q. I have a vinyl decal on my back window over the defroster grid. The decal has hardened and is now stuck to the window. How can I remove the decal without damaging the defroster?

A. I don't think you'll be able to get it off without damaging the defroster grid.
What I would try is to get a strip of plexiglass about 12" to 14" long, 1/8" thick and no wider than the distance between grid lines. Then line up the edge of your flexible "ruler" with the grid line and with a sharp blade, cut through the decal, being careful not to cut the grid line.
Do this on both sides of each grid line. It will be a bit tedious and take some time, but look at it this way, a new rear window will run about $750.00 to $1,000.00.
Once you have the decal cut, you should be able to peel it or scrape it off without damaging the defroster grid. If you should nick the defroster grid you can get a repair kit at an auto parts store. But with care and patience, I think you'll be able to get it off with little or no damage. Hopefully it is not a big decal.
