Volkswagen Jetta Door Locks In-op

Q. Hi Mr. Vincent Ciulla: I have a car with the following characteristics:

  • 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
  • 1.8 liter fuel injection
  • Manual transmission
  • 65,000 Kilometers
  • ABS brakes
Volkswagen Jetta Door Locks In-op

The problem that I have is with the door locks, suddenly one day I pressed the key to unlock the doors then I heard a strange sound and the front passenger door was the only door that was unlock. The other doors locks don't not work anymore. I checked and replaced a 15 amp fuse but it doesn't fix the problem.

A. The door lock system depends on what trim level the vehicle has so it's difficult for me to make a suggestion what to look for and check.

However, the door lock systems do have a self diagnostic capability. You will need a scan tool capable of accessing those codes so I think the best thing to do would be to take it to your Volkswagen Dealer and let them scan the system.
