Honda Accord Is Burning Oil

Q. Hello Vincent, My name Is Brent and I'm relatively new to cars but I'm trying to learn all that I can. I've been looking around your site and I find it very helpful, you do a good job. I own a:

  • 1997 Honda Accord SE, 2.2
  • Liter SOHC
  • Automatic transmission
  • 268,000 kilometers (166,527 miles)
  • Fuel injected
  • ABS brakes
  • P/S, A/C, Cruise control
Honda Accord Is Burning Oil

Hopefully that covers the info you require. I'm having a problem... my fuel economy sucks and oil is leaking into two of the cylinders which I discovered upon checking the spark plugs. What could be the problem here? Any help would be appreciated.

A. With oil coming into two cylinders that explains the poor fuel economy. Once the spark plugs in those two cylinders foul out and stop firing, your fuel economy is going to go right down the toilet.

What you need to do is a wet/dry compression test on the engine and see if the oil burning is due to bad rings or bad valve seals.
