BMW 316i Has Rusty Valves???

Q. Hi, I have a 1991 BMW 316i (E30) and has the M40 engine. It has 300,000 kilometers on the clock. I was driving one day and stopped at a robot, then stalled and doesn't start since. The engine turns, it swings but doesn't start. I believe that there is no compression. One mechanic has said that it has blown a compression ring? And another says that it because of rusty valves? What should I do??

BMW 316i Has Rusty Valves???

A. I would suggest having a wet/dry compression test done if you believe there is no engine compression. You can talk to mechanics and get opinions all day long but a compression test will tell you for sure what's going on inside the engine.

Rusty valves? That's a new one on me. I thought I had heard it all!
