Porsche Cayenne DVD Player Problems
Q. Dear Vincent Ciulla, my wife recently bought a brand new 2006 Porsche Cayenne 3.2 liter with automatic and tiptronic transmission. After driving it for two days, she had a DVD system with cordless headphones installed. The installation was done by the electronics dealer. One week after the installation she noticed a yellow warning light coming on once in a while and disappearing again.
She tried to find the cause through the car's computer with the help of the Porsche dealer but got no answer. She then tried to bring the car to the electronic's dealer, but as it is, when something goes wrong, on the way to the dealer the battery went low and the car had to be towed. The DVD system was running at that time. Porsche says, they had to replace the alternator and the battery but cannot explain why this happened.
The electronics dealer maintains that the system is mounted correctly. This is a brand new car, only 1,000 miles driven by now. What might cause the problem? I don't want to blame anyone, I just want to make sure my wife doesn't get stuck in the middle of the highway every two months or so.
Thank you for your time and your kind answer,
BernhardA. It might have been helpful if I knew what the warning light was for. In cars yellow lights indicate a warning, like low washer fluid. Red lights indicate a malfunction like low oil pressure.
I have no idea what was done when the DVD player was installed or how it was installed. Was it tied into an existing system or was it independently wired in? I don't know so I can not advise you if this problem is because of the DVD player or a problem with the vehicle itself.
I would suggest that you have the system removed and the vehicle brought back to it's original condition and see what happens. If the problem goes away then you know it was due to the DVD system. If not, then it is the vehicle itself.
