Dodge Dakota Eating Fuel Sending Units

Q. Vince, I have a 1993 Dodge Dakota with a 5.2 V-8, automatic transmission, EFI and a bunch of other stuff that really doesn't matter for this problem. My problem is with the sending unit of the fuel pump keeps crapping out, which then makes the fuel gauge go nuts. The pump is just fine, just the sending unit keeps going bad after 10-18 minutes.

Dodge Dakota Eating Fuel Sending Units

Its got lots of miles, 337,000 and I've replaced the sending unit too many times. I've tried the Mopar stuff for most of the time. Tried an after-market, no banana.

My question is; what could be making the sending unit crap out so quickly? Is there an aftermarket that is more durable?

TIA,
Loren

BTW; You should say what time zone you are in on your web site.

A. Usually when a device or module consistently goes bad, it's due to a high resistance connection. So the first thing I would suggest is to check all the connectors and grounds for a good clean connection.

If the wiring is good, there is a revised sending unit and a wiring harness that provides a common ground for the fuel gauge and the sending unit.

You can get the wiring harness and sending unit at the Dodge Dealer and a copy of TSB number 08-33-94 dated July 15, 1994 for the installation procedure.

Oh, and I never saw any reason to put my time zone on my site, but I live in Minnesota which puts me in the Central time zone.
