Mazda Protege Clutch Question
Q. I have a 2000 Mazda Protege LX with 130,000 miles. I have been having a clutch problem and would like advice before seeking repairs. When in neutral I hear a rattling noise from under the driver side floor, and can feel the noise. It stops when I put in the clutch. When slowing down and the clutch is in I hear a clicking noise that continues until a complete stop.
The clutch sometimes is hesitant when taking off in first gear. I also hear a high pitched noise, sort of a whine, when full speed on the highway. It shifts into gears fine. Any help appreciated.
A. It sounds like you have a bad transmission input shaft bearing. I would have your Mazda Dealer take it for a road test to confirm this.
The transmission will have to be removed and opened up to replace it.
