Honda Civic Si screeching Noise
Q. My name is Crystal, and I'm having a slight issue with my car. It's a 1992 Honda Civic Si, Manual transmission, 1.6 liter engine with about 186,000 miles on her. Just this afternoon, as I was pulling in to park and backing out of the space to re-adjust myself, a metal on metal screeching coming from the front, driver-side wheel. The sound is only there when the wheel actually moves, regardless of whether the engine is on or off.
My first thought was that something probably got wedged between the brake caliper and the disk, but when we took the tire off, it looks more like the pad is just pressing down against the disk, and doesn't react at all when the brake pedal is pressed, again, regardless of whether the engine is on or off. I'm not certain how to approach the problem, and I'm still trying to find my Chilton manual after a recent move.
I'm not a huge car person; I just do most of my own maintenance myself and minor repairs. My diagnostic skills are so-so, so I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

A. It sounds to me (no pun intended) like the Audible Wear Sensors on the brake pads are what's causing the noise. The wear sensors are bent pieces of metal attached to the brake pads and are designed to contact the brake rotor when the brake pads wear down to the point of needing replacement.
They kinda sound like scrapping your fingernails across a blackboard. Audible Wear Sensors
