Ford Mustang Shuts Off By Itself
Q. Yes Sir, I have a 1989 Ford Mustang LX. My question that if you can answer my question: I had a fuel pump relay replace. Right after the replacement, I took the car for test drive; the car shuts off by itself without turning off the key. I replaced the computer control box. What could the problem be?
Thank you for any information that you can give me.
A. There was a recall on the ignition switches for short circuiting. It effects, among others, all 1988-1993 Model Year Mustang. So the first thing I would do is to take it to a Ford dealer and see if the recall was performed. The recall was issued November 29, 1995 but there is no time limit on it.
Other than that you may have a bad Ignition Control Module, not an uncommon occurrence for this vehicle.
