Jeep Comanche Has No Crank
Q. I have a 1988 Jeep Comanche. When I turn the key I have nothing happening. The vehicle gets no power, so I figured that it had to be the starter switch. I put in a new switch and still nothing. I checked the rod when I turn the key and it is moving fine. Have also put in a new starter, battery and both negative and positive cables. What is my solution?
A. First thing I would suggest is to use a test light and see if you have power at the dark green wire at the starter solenoid with the key in the 'START' position. If you do, then you have a bad starter/solenoid.
If you don't, you will need a wiring diagram to trace back from the starter to the ignition switch. You might have a bad starter relay, located in the relay bracket under the hood, or neutral safety switch mounted on the side of the transmission.
