Cadillac Seville Taking A Fuel Leak
Q. Would a bad fuel pump gasket/o-ring cause my car to leak fuel and run rough. Discovered leak after filling up. It leaked fuel from 18 gallon level down to about 11 gallon tank level then stopped. Caught fuel in oil change pan. Do you have to drop the tank on this model to get to the fuel pump?
- 1993 Cadillac Seville
- 4.9 liter V-8
- Automatic transmission
- 125,000 miles
A. I don't believe it is a bad fuel pump O ring that is leaking. If that were the case as soon as the level went down an inch or so, it wouldn't leak anymore. If the leak stops at, about, the halfway mark, I would say you have a leaking fuel tank or possibly a fuel line. Although a fuel line would leak regardless of fuel level.
The fuel storage tank is made of high density polyethylene and is located in front of the rear wheels and has a 20 gallon capacity.
If you look under the car you should be able to see the tank. A fuel leak leaves marks so you will be able to trace the mark from the bottom of the tank up to the leak.
