Cadillac Catera Blowing BCM Fuses

Q. Hi Vincent: I have a 1997 Cadillac Catera, 3.0 liter V-6, automatic transmission with 66,000 miles on it. On two separate occasions after jumping the battery to start, a fuse blows and the body module has to be reprogrammed so the radio will play. Which fuse is it and can I reprogram the module myself? The shop wants $85.00 to do it. What is causing this to happen?

Thank you,

Cadillac Catera Blowing BCM Fuses

A. There are actually four fuses that supply power to the Body Control Module (BCM). Fuse V4 which is an 80 amp fuse, fuse 10 which is a 15 amp fuse, Fuse 24 which is a 10 amp fuse and fuse 15 which is a 15 amp fuse. So I can't tell you exactly which fuse is blowing.

If you are jump starting the car and the fuse blows before you try to start it, it's most likely fuse V4. If it blows as, or after you start it, then it could be any of them.

As far as I know, that BCM does not need to be reprogrammed. Just the radio, seat positions etc... need to be reset.

If this only happens when you jump start the car, why don't you just find the reason you need to get a jump and fix it. This way you won't be blowing any more fuses.
