Lincoln Towncar Squeaky Front End

Q. Vincent; I have a 1994 Lincoln Towncar with 45,500 miles. The front end now squeaks when the front end is bounced. The owners guide states that you use "Ford" long life grease for the ball joints and tie rod ends. Good trick when there are no grease fittings. I've tried spraying WD-40 with out to much success. Is there anything else I can do short of replacing the lower ball joints?

Thank You,
Fred

Lincoln Towncar Squeaky Front End

A. I've always had good luck with drilling the existing non-greasable joints and installing self tapping zerk fittings available at most parts suppliers. Often the squeaking can be attributed to rubber on metal moving parts such as the stabilizer bar bushings and end links.

As an experimental measure I would try spraying some vinyl protectant on these one at a time and bouncing the car. If the squeak disappears, you've isolated the source, I would then follow up with a liberal coating of rubber lubricant applied with a paint brush as a more lasting fix.
