Volkswagen Golf A/C Sensors & Relays
Q. Dear Vincent, I am a proud owner of a 1993 Volkswagen Golf Station Wagon with 1.9 liter Turbo Diesel VIN: WVWZZZ1HZRW216562 with an engine code AAZ CHD and 168,000 miles. Converted from a Turbo Diesel to carburetor and gasoline. A/C and P/S. I just converted the car from a Diesel to gas. With an ABA engine, 2.0 liter Volkswagen fitted with a carburetor.
After this conversion I am facing some problems with my A/C. Anytime I switch on my A/C initially the first speed fan works with the A/C and within 10 seconds the second speed fan begins to operate. And this continues till I switch off the A/C. What is wrong with my with my car A/C. I also need some assistance to locate the A/C Evaporator temperature switch.
I would like to know exactly where this switch is fixed or located in my car. If there is none, what component is controlling the evaporator’s temperature. Furthermore I would be very grateful if you could also show me where to locate the A/C Clutch Cut-Off Relay and A/C relay. Why is mine without a A/C relay? I am also facing problems with my temperature gauge. This gauge never hits the middle marks. What is wrong with my gauge? The fan works normally too.
If you can possibly send me a copy of the schematic diagrams of the A/C’s electrical system. I am sending this email from Ghana in Africa. I have a copies of Haynes and Bentley Manuals but it's of no help. I would be very grateful if you can help me with this information.
William
A. The A/C Relay is located in Position 1 on the Fuse/Relay Panel.

The Evaporator Temperature Sensor/Switch is located in the passenger compartment, on the bottom of the evaporator housing, #4.

As for your temperature gauge, I would try replacing the thermostat first. It's probably stuck open.
