Q. I have an 1986 Ford Tempo that has no spark. The coil is good and the ignition module is also good. What else should I check?

A. First off, is the distributor turning? You might have a broken timing belt and the distributor is not even spinning. Also, did you check for codes? If there is a code stored, that would probably point you right to the problem. Read Diagnostic Trouble Codes to find out how to display the codes and what they mean.

It's possible you have a bad or dirty Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS).

There may be a problem with the Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) in the distributor. The PIP signal is created in the Hall Effect and Stator assembly and indicates crankshaft position and engine RPM . The PIP signal is fed to both the Thin Film Ignition (TFI) module and the PCM.
