Volkswagen Cabrio With DTC P0411

Q. Hi Vince, I have a question about a Diagnostic Trouble Code. I have a 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio with a 4 cylinder engine and about 55,000 miles. The DTC that came up when the Check Engine Light was on is P0411, which is "Secondary Air Injection System-Incorrect Flow Detected" and I wanted to know how dangerous it was to keep driving and if it is an expensive repair?

Thanks for any information.
Deb

A. Volkswagen has a Technical Service Bulletin out for this. The vacuum lines, braided cloth covered, for the Secondary Air Injection System may be cracked or broken due to temperature variations. Here's what to look for.

Inspect for damaged vacuum hoses at the Secondary air inlet valve (2) to Combi valve (20) and vacuum hose (20) from the secondary air inlet valve (2) to the brake booster vacuum check valve.

If damaged, replace the vacuum hoses from Secondary air inlet valve (2) to Combi valve (20) and vacuum hose (20) from the secondary air inlet valve (2) to the brake booster vacuum check valve with the hose from repair kit Part No: 1JM 133001.

It wouldn't be dangerous to drive the vehicle, but I would suggest you get it to a Volkswagen Dealer to have the repairs made as soon as you can.
