Chevrolet Belair Headers Glowing Red

Q. I purchased a set of ceramic block hugger’s for my 1958 Chevrolet Belair. The headers are mounted on a 350 small block with a super charger, 144, 112/112 cam pushing around 580 hp. The headers glow red, but the engine temperature is a constant 190°. Is this normal?

Chevrolet Belair Headers Glowing Red

A. That exhaust is hot and I think it would be normal. The old cast iron manifolds are thick and can hold a lot of heat before they start to glow. Maybe a call to the manufacturer would put you at ease.
