Acura CL Transmission Shift Problems

Q. Hi Vincent, I have a question about my car, my car details are as follows:

  • 1999 Acura CL
  • 3.0 liter V-6
  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles
  • ABS Brakes
  • P/S, A/C, Cruise control
Acura CL Transmission Shift Problems

Question: When I drive the car and accelerate from stop, sometimes when I accelerate I will see the car RPM's rise and then as it shifts into the next gear there is a fairly strong jerk. I think it might be some sort of transmission or engine problem but can't tell.

Can you help me out with this? I have had the transmission fluid changed but this did not solve the problem.

Thanks,
Mehul

A. I'm assuming you had the transmission filter replaced as well as the transmission fluid.

I think what is happening to you is addressed in this TSB. I would take it to your Acura dealer and let them check it out for you.

TSB No.: 00-021
Date: July 3, 2000

Applies To:
1999 3.0 liter CL - All

SYMPTOM:
Shudder or judder when driving at speeds between 20 and 40 mph. This vibration is most noticeable when the torque converter lock-up CLutch is in the partial lock-up mode.

PROBABLE CAUSE:
Irregularities in the torque converter face prevent the lock-up CLutch from smoothly engaging.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:
Replace the torque converter.

PARTS INFORMATION:
Torque Converter: P/N 26000-P&C-315
