Oldsmobile Regency Random Misfires
Q. Dear Vincent: I'm at the end of my rope. I just want a car to run right or to have someone fix it. The car: 1997 Oldsmobile 98 Regency 3.8 liter V-6 P/S, A/C, and ABS with traction control. Nice car, we like it. 98,000 miles. It has a hitch, rpms fluctuate and a code is "sometimes" set. Misfire 1 and 4, sometimes random misfire.
Replaced plugs, wires and now upper plenum, for coolant leak, replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, was dirty. Took apart the fuel rail and found the injectors to be clean. Should I give up and get a Toyota?
I have a 1992 GMC pick up with 300,700 plus miles, still runs like new. What is wrong with this car? I would be so happy if I could just find a book that would be a help in defining the problem.

Cylinders 1 and 4 share the same coil. It could be breaking down. Also, the Crank Angle Sensor could be doing this. A quick look with a scanner may tell you exactly what's going on.![]()
