Oldsmobile Aurora Stalls At Lights

Q. I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora. I have the oil changed every 2,000 miles and the car has been service by the Olds Dealer since 1998. The car has 97,000 miles on it. My problem: The car started missing two months ago and they replaced the plugs and wiring. Then the car started stalling at traffic lights so I took it to two Oldsmobile Dealerships who told me that they experienced the car stalling but do not know why because it does not leave an imprint on the "onboard vehicle diagnostic computer."

One worked on the car for four hours and the other six hours. Then I took the car to two independent garages and they said the same thing. Between all repair places the following items were replaced: spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, mass air flow sensor, fuel filter, idle control sensor, cleaned fuel injectors, fuel lines, replaced struts, new brakes, inspected and checked all vehicle ground contact points.

The car still stalls at traffic lights, and no one can tell me why. I can prevent the car from stalling if I let it move forward an inch or so, or if I put it in neutral, or if I put it in park. I also will not stall when the engine is cold. Can you help me fix this problem? I would appreciate any information you can provide.

A. Can't the dealer give you an idea of what they think it is? Have they tried installing a fuel pressure gauge on it and drive it? Taken a "snapshot" of the stall with a scan tool? Maybe the transmission is hanging up in TCC mode? Have they checked all service bulletins for a similar problem? It could be lot's of things. We really need to rule out the fuel pressure first. Then I would look at the crank sensor area and also make sure there are no vacuum leaks. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
