Chevy S-10 ZR2 Gets Lousy Gas Milage
Q. Vincent, I have a 2000 Chevy S-10 ZR2 pick-up, with a 4.3 liter Vortec engine. It is a 4 speed automatic with 43,400 miles. It is fuel injected, has ABS brakes, power steering, air conditioning and cruise control. I fill it up, and I can barely get over 200 miles around town on a full tank. Now I know that can't be right.
The truck has 32" tires, and the ZR2 has the factory lift, but there is no way it should be that bad should it? The truck idles fine, and has great power still, it just gets terrible mileage. What could the problem be, and what would be some way's to fix it?
Thank you very much,
Mark
North Platte, NebraskaA. How are you figuring your mileage? IF you divide the miles driven into the gallons put in, those tires are affecting the actual miles driven if you haven't changed the speedometer program. Also you don't mention the actual MPG you are getting. Has it always been this way? You may have a dripping fuel pressure regulator but that would usually give you some clues. Any DTC's stored in PCM?
