Toyota 4x4 Blinking Red
Q. 1994 Toyota 4x4, 22R-E 4 cylinder, manual transmission and 215,000 miles. I just purchased this vehicle. I was inspecting a loose wire when I believe I bumped the computer. A beeping noise started and the lights began to blink. The lights finally stopped blinking. There is a small red light just above the clutch override button that keeps on blinking.
I put the keys in the ignition and the truck will not even turn over. I disconnected the positive side of the battery over night, but the results are the same. Help! Is there some switch that will reset this?
Thanks,
ChrisA. There are three types of alarm systems used in that vehicle. A factory installed alarm, a port or dealer installed alarm and all the other aftermarket alarms. And I have seen, many times, vehicles with an O.E. or PIO/DIO alarm AND an aftermarket alarm.
If you have an O.E. or PIO/DIO alarm, you should be able to turn it off with the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) control. If you did not get one, then you will need to get one from the dealer or if it doesn't work, it will need to be reprogrammed by the dealer.
From what you describe, it sounds like you have the O.E. VIP alarm system which is a Toyota system so you should not have any problem with the dealer fixing it up for you.
If you have the alarm manual, it will tell you where the alarm control module is and you can just unplug it to disable the alarm and drive the vehicle.
